The oil painting Alte Muehle an der Pfinz by Andrii Chebotaru was created in 2019 as part of the "Plein air Kunst in Baden" project. It shows the picturesque landscape of Graben-Neudorf, in which the Pfinz flows gently in the foreground and the historic mill shines in the background. Even at first glance, a harmonious scenery unfolds, radiating calm and liveliness at the same time.
The time-honored mill is a symbol of tradition and stability. Its red roof and light-colored half-timbered walls stand out clearly against the strong blue of the sky. As a result, it acts as a calming influence in the midst of the vibrant world of color. It also reflects a piece of local history, which Chebotaru has interpreted in his very own style.
The artist works with an expressive, impasto style of painting. Every brushstroke is clearly visible and contributes to the vivid effect of the painting. The color palette ranges from intense shades of blue to warm orange and yellow tones. This creates a luminous contrast that conveys both depth and dynamism. In addition, the strong structures create the impression that nature is moving in harmony with the water of the Pfinz.
The painting conveys a mood full of energy and yet calm. While the play of colors evokes joy and optimism, the mill radiates serenity and constancy. The work therefore seems like an invitation to step into the scenery and let time stand still for a moment. It is a balance between tradition and the present, between movement and tranquillity.
This oil painting is ideal for private collections, modern living spaces or prestigious business premises. It is also a valuable gift for people who appreciate both art and regional history. It unfolds its full effect in a gallery and immediately attracts attention with its expressiveness. This makes "Alte Muehle an der Pfinz" a work of art that brings joy, enlivens rooms and tells stories.
The plein air painter Chebotaru Andrii enchants with his landscapes created throughout Europe. As a passionate plein air painter, he loves colors in two ways: on the one hand in their iridescent variety, and on the other as a material itself, which he applies vividly and powerfully. He is thus not only part of the Impressionist tradition, but also brings a modern touch through his expressive techniques.
After his training, Chebotaru attended the "Landscape Painting" workshop at the National Academy of Arts and Architecture for six years. His teachers, V. I. Zabasty and I. Yu. Melnychuk, had a decisive influence on his development. Nevertheless, Chebotaru developed his own style early on, which is characterized by spontaneity, energy and an extraordinary intensity of colour.
Chebotaru has been a member of the National Association of Artists of Ukraine since 2011 and is now considered a proven master of plein air painting. He has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions. In 2016, he showed his works in a solo exhibition at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. His paintings are represented in galleries and private collections worldwide - including in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, Russia, China and Taiwan.
He is particularly inspired by the diversity of European landscapes. In the Basque Country, untouched nature and rural harmony come together. In cities like Bilbao, he finds the contrast between historical architecture and modern architecture exciting. He therefore uses both the romantic beauty of beaches and mountains and the dynamism of industrial architecture for his pictorial compositions. The Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, a symbol of modern architecture, became a special motif for him.
Chebotaru's journey of open-air painting is more than just capturing moments. It is an invitation to viewers to become part of the landscapes themselves - to walk on the beach, climb rocks or stroll through narrow alleyways. He also conveys an intense engagement with nature through changing light, different times of day and weather conditions. Therefore, each of his works is not just a picture, but an experience.
