Abstract art
Art form that dispenses with the representation of real objects and instead uses forms, colors and structures to express feelings, moods or ideas.
Commissioned work (Commission)
A work of art created specifically according to the buyer's wishes, often in close consultation with the artist.
Edition / Limited Edition
Limited edition of a work of art (e.g. prints or sculptures), numbered and signed by the artist.
Fine Art Print
High-quality art print, often on special paper or canvas, which comes very close to the original work in terms of color and detail.
Gallery commission
The percentage of the sales price that a gallery receives as remuneration for its brokerage and sales services.
Hanging
The placement of works of art on a wall or in a room. Professional hanging takes light, proportions and spatial effect into account.
Curation
The selection, arrangement and presentation of works of art for exhibitions or collections.
Original
A unique, handmade work of art that has not been reproduced.
Provenance
The complete origin and ownership history of a work of art, often important for its value.
Framing
The selection and design of a frame to protect the work and emphasize its effect.
Sculpture
Three-dimensional work of art created by modeling, carving, casting or other techniques.
Unique
A unique work that only exists once in this form - in contrast to prints or series.
Vernissage
Ceremonial opening of an art exhibition, often with an artist talk and audience.
